Impression, also called Impression, Sunrise, is a painting by the French Impressionist painter Claude Monet. This painting is the one that gives the name to the Impressionist movement, a name given by the critic Louis Leroy in a derogatory manner. It is a painting where, in a thick brushstrokes, dominates the purplish blue hue, broken only by the orange sun and the water reflection. The strokes are somewhat free, fast and direct, reducing the board components to an apparent simplification, as contemplated in the water reflections. This artwork is dated in 1873.
Claude Monet is the artist who best reflects the characteristics of Impressionism. Unsuccessful at the beginning, but in the late XIX century is a dedicated painter. He was born in Paris. He enjoyed making caricatures and landscapes. He painted outdoors. He studied painting where he met the Impressionists. His obsession is to capture the light, where the figures lose the corporeal form, as if they merge with the atmosphere. Impression is the first painting that was exposed after fifty years producing.
The Impressionist school emerged in the late XIX century. At that time, only were exhibited in the official salons the artworks that were considered of higher rank, the historical paintings, religious, mythological and allegorical. Those of lower rank were landscapes, portraits, still life and everyday scenes. Therefore, the paintings of the Impressionists left out. The Impressionists painted what they see as is reflected by the color, catching the light. The work began and ended outdoor (in general), and not starting it outdoors and then finishing it in the workshop. They had short and paste brushstroke. They used the rainbow colors excluding black and brown. The first exhibition was held in a local of the photographer Nadar.
In conclusion, the Impression of Monet is a painting that has the perfect name, because not only gives its own name, it even gives the name to the fully revolutionary movement within art history and painting.
